Biography

My maternal grandparents

BLUMA AND ISAAC PERLEMAN (LIVED IN WARSAW PRE-OCCUPATION)

Date of Birth & Date of Death: unknown

Place of Death: Warsaw or Treblinka

Of their 8 adult children and many grandchildren my mother, half-sister and I are the only ones of their descendants to have survived the Holocaust.

SOME OF MY AUNTS AND UNCLES AND THEIR CHILDREN REMAINED IN WARSAW WHILE OTHERS HAD MOVED TO PARIS AND THESE PROBABLY WERE ROUNDED UP IN THE SUMMER OF 1942 AND EITHER PERISHED IN DRANCY OR PITHIVIERS OR WERE TRANSPORTED TO AUSCHWITZ.

THE ONLY INFORMATION I HAVE IS THAT NONE SURVIVED THE HOLOCAUST. BECAUSE OF THE TRAUMAS OF THE HOLOCAUST IT WAS TOO PAINFUL FOR MY MOTHER TO SPEAK OF THEM AND I DO NOT KNOW THEIR NAMES.

THE ONLY ONE I KNOW FOR CERTAIN WHO REMAINED IN WARSAW WAS HER YOUNGEST BROTHER. HE WAS A PAEDIATRICIAN AND AN EYEWITNESS INFORMED MY PARENTS THAT HE HAD BEEN  WORKING IN THE CHILDRENS’ HOSPITAL AND WAS DRAGGED AWAY BY THE NAZIS. I DO NOT KNOW WHETHER HE DIED IN THE GHETTO OR TREBLINKA.
