My father obtained his economics degree in ST Gallen, Switzerland as the Jewish laws prevented him from studying in Budapest. He went on to obtain a doctorate but was only able to work in his father's timberyard till that was confiscated. He was called up in the Jewish forced labour unit of the Hungarian army in June 1942, when my mother was 5 months pregnant with me. He saw photos of his baby son before he died near Voronezh in February.
